Amarok 2.4.1 "Resolution" released

The long winter is ending, and the spring flowers are blooming. So it must be time for an Amarok release. In this version 2.4.1, we fixed many bugs and corner-case crashes, so your Amarok will be more rock-steady than ever. Lyrics iPod handling both got some love, along with remote collections. Also, you can now better preview your changes in the Organize Collection feature. The changelog below gives a fairly complete overview of the changes since the last major release.

I finally switched from Kubuntu to Ubuntu and from Amarok to Exaile. Sorry, but you lost me after 10 years of KDE and a couple of years of Amarok. I don't know where to put my opinions, so I post them here. If you feel offended or think it does not belong here, then delete it.

I always was a strong supporter of KDE in general and Amarok in particular in my peer group (they kept asking me, why the hell I'd "still" be using this DE and this mediaplayer). I donated money. I even bought T-shirts and used Amarok since version 1.2. I like the people behind KDE (as far as what I am able to observe via Blogs).

But I grew more and more disappointed with KDE in general and, again, with Amarok in particular:
- sluggish performance
- lack of polish
- crashes
- introduction of a bunch of new technologies, paradigms and whatnot while not delivering a finished, usable product.

These are fairly generic issues (and yes, I submitted bug reports), I'm aware of that. And yes, maybe the Nvidia driver is the source of bad performance.

This is not supposed to be a rant, I don't want to discourage anyone of you, maybe KDE and Amarok aren't made for me anymore and maybe that's perfectly fine. After having been forced to re-install my system due to hardware failure I had the opportunity to compare. I installed Opensuse 11.4 (because of being known for good KDE-integration), Kubuntu and then Ubuntu 11.04. Only Ubuntu was able to deliver the charm of "just works" with a good performance, with a sense of polish.

I don't want a media player that does everything except playing media decently (and gapless... ;-) ). I don't want obscure technology like Akonadi, Plasma Workspaces, Nepomuk and whatnot that keep hammering my system or (as Akonadi) refuse to do anything useful at all. Yes, I can configure it, yes I can turn those technologies off, but why do I *have* to?

I've never thought that this could ever be possible and I'm a little sad as well, but you lost me.
