Here we'd like to give you a little insight on what we are currently working on. While we are currently still polishing version 1.0, work on the next release has already started.




We hope to come up with some exciting new features, take a look what's shaping up in our secret underground development labs:

• Scripting System:
  
  Our goal is to create a JavaScript plugin system, that allows for easy extending of the application. JavaScript is the ideal language for little extensions like an alarm plugin, or a new browser. Quick and easy, even beginners can use it without a steep learning curve. The scripting system is already functional in our 1.1 development branch.
• Extra Audio Engine:
  
  Many users have requested a pure Alsa engine, which does not require multimedia frameworks to be installed for amaroK. We plan to provide such an engine, possibly with the option to re-use existing XMMS plugins for decoding.
• New Visualization Framework:
  
  Currently amaroK has full support for existing XMMS visualizations. For the next version, we plan to add a new system that allows us to develop our own visualization plugins, and it will also allow third parties to offer plugins for amaroK.

..and as always, we will be open for suggestions. Stay tuned :)

• ADD: Option for selecting sound output system (OSS/Alsa). Currently only used with GStreamer engine.
• CHG: Extended and updated handbook, thanks to Mike Diehl .
• ADD: Context menu item "Make Playlist" in Collection Browser generates new playlists on the fly, without the need for drag-and-drop.
• CHG: Renamed several files and folders in the source code tree, resulting in improved code accessibility.

If you've read anything at all about portals, you'll probably know at least three things: Portals are the most exciting way to do business, Portals can be really, I mean really, complicated and lastly Portals are absolutely, outrageously, often unaffordably expensive.

{mosimage}Mambo Open Source is set to change all that ... Mambo Open Source is different from the normal models for portal software. For a start, it's not complicated. Mambo has been developed for the masses. It's licensed under the GNU/GPL license, easy to install and administer and reliable. Mambo doesn't even require the user or administrator of the system to know HTML to operate it once it's up and running.
