What about using a filelight-type collection view to allow masses of information in one place? If colour-colding is used, at the very least it could display size of collection, favourite songs, suggestions and so on. More perhaps in the tooltips. Example (poor mockup):
Yes, I think this mxcl has said something to this effect. It'd be pretty cool. --Eean 04:02, 21 May 2005 (EDT)
A few remarks on that
Two problems with this suggestion (not meaning that it's not an interesting one or that it should be dropped!):
- 1/ how exactly would you organize information so that it would be useful or relevant?
- 2/ highly graphical dynamic stuff like that not only are ressource eaters, but it would be quite hard to do in a html+css+javascript(ecmascript) environment, would'nt it? Unless the context browser is no longer an html thing, i may have missed some of the most recent developments.
General remarks :
- 1/ statistics by song are quite bothersome, but statistics by album might be a good idea.
- 2/ why would people need statistics anyway? I mean, knowing how much songs you have in your database is a good thing, and getting a confirmation of what your favourite albums are might be cool, but why should people care about the songs they don't listen to? We might need to decide which information is really important, and which might as well be dropped.
- 3/ better to present a few up-to-date useful information than tens of not-so-important bits of irrelevant information...
