To play devil's advocate here:
"KDE4 is still in heavy development, and it never has been announced to be finished yet," ...then why has a 4.0 final been released? Many people still expect a product to be finished when an x.0 final is released. Also, "Don't forget that, as with Firefox 3," FF3 is still technically beta (RC1 right now), while KDE 4.0 has been out for a while and 4.1 is being publicly worked on. You have to expect some backlash if expectations are raised and then dashed like this...
hm, where did you read that 4.0 was a final release? If I scan through the release announcement(http://www.kde.org/announcements/4.0/), it only states that "this is the beginning of the KDE 4 era". Who ever said that a "cutting edge" release was final? Don't read things into it that are not said
Howabout the kde homepage. At
http://kde.org/info/releases.php 4.0.4 is referred to as the stable version of KDE, with no known major bugs. The KDE community is sending out a very mixed message about the state of KDE 4.0, and as long as it does, people will bitch and moan about it.
I just downloaded the KDE 4 version of Kubuntu 8.04 in error, so I installed it and am typing this from within it.
My very first impressions: "You can have any color you want, as long as it is black." We've come a long way, only to find ourselves right back in 1914 with Henry Ford telling his customers how they should like their car. Big hint to the KDE folks ... make it easy, don't make it impossible. |
