I use a similar setup, maybe e little less efficient, since I have 2 distinct playlist (one for songs older than x days and one for tracks that have never been played). I find the resulting playlist quite unbalanced between the 2 sources, but I should probably change this since I rarely have unheard tracks in my collection.
What I am also missing is something to tell amarok that I want to hear tracks I rated higher more often than others: I use sort by random/rating, but I don't really notice its effect. Last thing would be to have a way to be sure that amarok will sooner or later go through all my music collection instead of playing songs with a very high playcount (songs older than x days helps, but x should vary depending on collection size and listening time).
I was about to email and ask about this. Why can't I create a Smart Playlist with songs that I've added in the last month? I can do first played in the last month and I can do modified in the last month but not added in the last month.
The collection shows me artists added within the last month, why isn't there an option to make this a playlist?
i use different smart playlist for syncing my ipod: one that contains the whole collection with some stuff excluded (e.g. my collection of audiobooks)
one that contains everything that has changed in the last week and one that shows every track containing words like remix or so to get all my remixes shown this way i can easyly sync my ipod by just adding the latest songs so i dont have to add the whole collection again btw. a real sync function for ipods woulb be nice for amarok2...
You have a filter named: "Added [today|within one week|within one month|three months|year] which is very useful when syncing the ipod. I dont think the sync function is useful for people who have collections bigger than the ipod...
My music is stored in genre directories, which was the only way to go in the days of Winamp 1.0. My Winamp (and windows!) days are long gone, but the genre directories are still there. In Amorok I use the File Path filter to select only certain genres such as classical or rock. One of my favorite playlists is an "unplayed electronica" list. I doubt I'll ever get through it!
Playing higher rated songs more often would be a great feature.
Syncing an ipod smaller than your collection makes sense for having good statistics or for rating my music on the road. I do this in itunes by only Syncing specific playlists. |
