Cool!
Why don't you and the ktorrent team develop something like a "ktorrent-parts"? I always wanted a "fusion" between ktorrent and kget, and this solution can let amarok be more powerful and ktorrent used in more ways...
YES, ZeD, good idea - afaik KGet is also going to support torrents, rather silly duplication of efforts. So a KPart or library or something would rock...
I do believe there exists a libktorrent for this purpose.
A kpart probably wouldn't be useful for us (eg where would we put it).
It's cool seein how much progress there is in Amarok.
/off_topic: I just wondering about amarok UI, isn't the center part of amarok taking too much space?, I mean the part with the amarok logo, is there any other use for it? Keep up the good work!
I agree that the center area does look a bit empty at the moment...
The big area with the Amarok logo is our new context view, meant to replace the context tab from the 1.4 series. What you cannot see from the screenshots is that the area is actually running Plasma, the same technology that will power the KDE4 desktop. Due to some recent changes to Plasma, all our custom applets are broken at the moment and cannot be displayed ( I actually removed a few that did not render correctly before grabbing the screenshot ). But dont worry, this area is what will really make Amarok2 come alive!
After posting I started looking at other screenshots, I saw something like Plasma on that area, that's really cool (I mean, I can't imagine all the posibilities), It's great to see that you guys are coming up with ideas that have never been seen (not even in propietary software).
(sorry for my poor english)
Not sure if this is reasonable, but couldn't we design something for ktorrent that functions in a similar fashion to the current ioslaves? I mean, like a torrent:/ protocol handler type thing where applications can just reuse it where appropriate. KGet, KTorrent, and Amarok would already be potential users.
About kget and torrent:
I thought I read that the two teams where working together. So that Kget torrent code is common with Ktorrent. Ktorrent would be the 'pro' app if you whant to manage your downloads, and Kget a general downloader, plug-in based (so a donkey, kad, and whatever p2p techno could be added ). I'dd say that Kget IS this Kpart/IO thing you are talking about, or I uterly misenderstood. I mean, you will just have to call Kget throught DBus and say 'download these things in this directory, and give me the ID of the UIserver so that I can monitor my download', or is it not ? Anyway, cool default, to choose OGG instead of mp3
The problem with ogg as default is when your mp3 player (or your wife's, or sister's, or daughter's) doesn't handle oggs.
The key phrase here is 'For now'
Don't worry, this will change before release. It was just so I could get something up and running in the time I had available instead of getting hung up on trivial stuff that is very easy to add later.
That won't really help. For the average Jamendo torrent, there's 0.2 seeds.
The main issue here is that the API we are using to access the Jamendo library ONLY offers downloads as torrents. So before this, it was not possible to download albums from Jamendo using Amarok2 at all...
