Make Amarok so good on MacOSX that every one stops using iTunes.
BTW Apple is greedy, even more than Microsoft.
I use Amarok on my Quad G5 Mac already thanks to Fink guys. You know the funny thing? Having more features,it uses LESS CPU and memory than iTunes.
It may have something to do with situation described here.
While I think a lot of what Apple does is pretty sleazy, sleazy doesn't equal monopoly. It's like when conservatives call anyone whose politics they don't like a "communist." Some emotional impact, but when a word like that is used so flippantly, it becomes semantically null.
Being the biggest player in a market where most of the other players are inept doesn't make you a monopoly. I don't see Apple buying up all the little guys to enforce dominance. I don't see Apple strong arming other device makers into making them use iTunes DRM exclusively, or else. I'm not sure of the actual numbers, but Apple doesn't seem to have many exclusive labels, etc. So, if you don't want iTunes, don't use it. I don't see the iPod restricted to only one format, the content for which can only be had by purchasing from Apple. I've an iPod Shuffle and I've not purchased one song from iTunes. I don't even need to use iTunes to put music on it. Don't get me wrong, I'd like the iPod to play music from other stores, and other devices to be able to play music from iTunes, among other things. Seems to me people are just looking for something to bitch about, at the decreasing actually improve Apple in these areas with a hand-waving sideshow. |
