Congratulations with the job! Remember to not turn Amarok into the *Magnatune Music Store*.
Don't worry!
The Magnatune integration will always be along the same lines as it was in the 1.4 series, meaning something that Amarok will work just fine without and something that can be completely hidden if it does not interest you. Also, the new framework I have created still exists, meaning that it is relatively easy to add other services. I am still committed to getting the simple Jamendo.com service I am working on ready for 2.0
I'm super-excited to help out a bit, to get Amarok 2 out the door, having a real Open Alternative to iTunes, so not just Magnatune, but also Jamendo and Last.fm and other open music businesses, have a chance of competing with the closed work of Apple, Microsoft and Napster.
By having Mac & Windows versions of Amarok, that will increase the "payoff" for people when they contribute to or work with Amarok, so that I expect Amarok will do even better than it has, hopefully spurring on a substantive Open Ecology in music, both business and non-profit, and get people what they really want. And of course, all the Amarok work that Nikolaj gets paid by me to do, will be open source and available for everyone's benefit. -john
Indeed, it seems like it should! Maybe I can whip together some more quickies for midweek
Just to add to all the other comments: congratulations. And it's great to see Magnatune making this kind of investment.
Big congratz
As John mentioned, this is a pretty good example of a (in one sense very literal) payoff for doing mac/win ports. A developer is now getting paid to work on a project where that would probably not be on the cards otherwise. Nice to see the old proprietary world can still be of some use to us on occasion
And another congratulation. Great times will arrive for Magnatune and Amarok.
Wow, congratulations. I love using Amarok, and I found some great Magnatune Music through it. Keep up the great work!
AMAZING NEWS!
Congratulations Nikolaj!! :DDD John is an extraordinary person to work with [and extraordinary in general! ;)], and what you are both doing is awesome. All the luck with this new venture!
