Amarok (amarok).... It really whips the lamas ass
Just kidding, good idea though, the current one is a bit silly...
Haha, that would be so great!!!
Thanks for saving my night after a not so good day. You are really funny!
Aww, I'm going to miss the current intro. Some dude with a german accent telling me to rediscover my music
Then mash it up with some of the music samples. That could be cool.
Could you not just ask Mike Oldfield to use a short clip of his Amarok CD? It would fit in well and there are some really nice parts to the CD. It would also be beneficial to Mike as many more people would be exposed to his music and try to purchase it (especially seeing as Amarok was the 'best' album, but his biggest commercial flop). I await hearing about the numerous issues I haven't thought about to why this could not be done...
"The only requirement is that you use samples from the Magnatune sample pool somewhere in the Amarok theme."
In other words, some amaroK developer sold out. Hope he'll be sharing the wealth.
Excuse me?!
This is a promotion that is graciously hosted for us for free by Magnatune.com and ccMixter.org. The main reason that the samples have to come from the Magnatune pool is that they have agreed to relicense them for these entries in a form (CC3.0-by-sa) that allows commercial re-distribution of the jingle. The reason for this is that Amarok is distributed by commercial Linux vendors as well as non-profit organizations and they would not be able to distribute Amarok if we include a jingle that is under a non-commercial CC license. I asked Magnatune if they were interested in helping out with comming up with a great jingle, and they proposed this contest. It is good promotion for Magnatune.com, ccMixter.org and Amarok alike, but no money is changing hands over it. (besides the first price for the winner of course) So please done make that kind of accusation, with no evidence of any kind to back it up, just because you don't like the idea.
Great idea ! But still some questions :
** Where is the ‘Amarok Theme’ submit form ? ** Is it possible for composer group to participate, and to apply in the name of their group ? ** Is it possible to have screenshots of the installer page, to adapt the jinggle to the pictures ? And also, does the developpers have any additional wish as regards the jinggle? ** Feeling to convey: dynamic, wide, cosy, hi-tec, sereine ? ** Kind of instruments: ethnic, electronic, garageband, symphonic ?
** The details are on this page:
http://ccmixter.org/media/thread/1095 ** Yeah why not, we're not anal about that. Also, we allow multiple submissions per composer. ** There is no installer yet. ** Feeling: I would say modern, dynamic, fresh. But it's really hard to say.. ** Any kind of instrument or music style is allowed. Although personally I'd rather not hear heavy metal music
Then mash it up with some of the music samples. That could be cool.
What if I kinda sorta don't want to use anything from magnatune?????!???
"What if I kinda sorta don't want to use anything from magnatune?????!???"
As I mentioned in a comment earlier, The reason for using Magnatune samples is that they have allowed us to relicense he resulting jingles without the Non-commercial clause that most samples on ccMixter are under. If you use samples from anywhere else, you will have to get the authors to allow the same, and this might prove very difficult. Of course, if you use purely your own original samples, then there is no problem, but we cannot use a jingle that is not properly licensed as many linux distributions would not be able do redistribute it with Amarok.
so if I played all the instruments, all the notes and stuff, and did NOT use any one elses loops or samples I can submit my work without magnatune samples?
"so if I played all the instruments, all the notes and stuff, and did NOT use any one elses loops or samples I can submit my work without magnatune samples?"
Sure! It is, as I mentioned, purely a matter of having the proper rights to distribute the resulting jingle under a CC-by-sa license.
By the way. I created an account and tried to upload my music theme but I recieved a message that said ".aif files are unwanted" or something like that. What am I doing wrong. Am I uploading at the wrong place?
Help I can't upload!!! Can someone please write instructions or something??
I have not tried uploading anything to ccMixter myself, so I would suggest that you try to contact them for assistance.
I did read on their forum that the max size of uploads are 10mb, so maybe this is the problem?
No, it's way less than 10mb.
Upload any sound file (.aif if you can because thats what I'm tring to upload) and you'll see what I mean. It's quite strange.
NEVR MIND ABOUT UPLOADING PROBLEMS!!! Stupid mistake on my part. Thank you for your help.
=) =) =)
hey guys, is there any submission deadline or something? nothing's mentioned here or on the ccmixter forum post..
Since we have a fair deal of time before Amarok2 will be released, the deadline for submissions is October the 1st.
That was mentioned in the news item on http://amarok.kde.org but I guess I should have put that here as well!
Hey, important question :
Is this music supposed to be played as a loop ? (like in some other installers) Or will it be played only once, with a clear start and end ? thanks |
