amaroK 1.3, podcasting support

Yep, that’s right! It took me nearly a day, but podcast integration into amaroK is just about complete. For those of you who aren’t running any of the 1.3 beta releases, you might remember my blog about an updated playlist browser. The more I use it, the more I like it, from a usability (correct me if I am mistaken) and development point of view.

Since everything is written about QDom and xml, podcast support was a breeze. Just need to add a little configuration dialog for caching audio files and auto fetching updates at specified time intervals!

I can’t wait for amaroK 1.3. We’ve been working solidly on the new branch since 1.2.3 (1.2.4 was bugfix release), which was released on the 29th March 2005 - an entire 4 months ago. Since then, according to the ChangeLog there have been:

54 features
13 changes
35 bugfixes

Development versions are becoming increasingly more stable, so if you can’t wait, check out beta2!

So what exactly can you do now with amaroK now that it supports podcasting? Stupid question, I know, but I don't get it...

Funny, that's my blog linked above. I am in no way officially connected to the Amarok project, aside from being a user.

I use bashpodder to do all the podcast fetching and simply tell Amarok to look in the directory it puts its playlists in. That way it pulls it and I play it. It is not very flexible. I'm hoping for some improvement in flexibility in this new version. I'll be trying it out as soon as I can.

is there support in amarok podcast aggregation for httpAuth and SSL? if not will there be?

no matter what sound program I use I cannot hear any radio stations or anything over the internet and yet I have every program possible installed?

What is the problem? I even have Amarok 1.4 and I still can't hear anything on the internet?

Can you help?
