Of course this is a big issue, as users don't want any flickering, lagging or otherwise unresponsive desktop. If this won't be fixed by smart caching (which will result in a lot more memory usage as a negative side effect) with the alpha/beta releases KDE 4 will be a very bad experience.
well, I've seen some discussions about how to speed things up, and they are certainly trying to do so. Eliminating unneeded redraws and smart caching can indeed help a lot.
I had not read that KDE Dot article before. KReversi and KBounce looks very impressive!!
