Some people might know that since about a month I'm suffering from no, or actually very low, motivation to do anything. As result of this I decided to take a timeout from Amarok, KDE and FOSS development/management, for a not yet known period of time. This will most likely start after release of Amarok 1.4.4 I will unsubscribe from every mailing list, not aggregate planets or blogs or IT related news, not join any IRC channel, not log into my jabber account @ kdetalk, not answer any mail about Amarok, KDE or FOSS (as long as it's not really important to do so) and probably some more I didn't think of as I also stopped drinking coffee (doctor's advice). Now, why do I do this? Mainly because I have far too much responsibilities right now (not only in FOSS), and this is putting a lot of pressure on me, but also because I want to get an all new view at the whole open source movement, and last but not least, because I want to spend more time on learning French So, watch out for Amarok 1.4.4

have a "actions" menu in every kde application containing the most common actions you can do with it. When using the desktop menubar the actions menu gets renamed to the application name. See my previous post to see why that is usefull. Every user is different so it could change the order of the actions menu depending on the users usage of those actions.
Task driven menu for applications. Have a "actions" menu in every kde application containing the most common actions you can do with it. ex. Amarok: "Play Media", "Play Audiocd", "Quit". When using the desktop menubar the actions menu gets renamed to the application name. See my previous post to see why that is useful. Every user is different so it could change the order of the actions menu depending on the users usage of those actions. It can even insert actions that are not there by default. I guess most items in a well designed menu can end up in the actions menu. The developers have to tag menu items as actions but only a few of them (most used or default) end up in the actions menu. And, since automation seems to be bad usablility wise (according to Ellen), users and developers are able to pin items to the menu. If you are shouting "this is similar to XP's start menu or the Kickoff menu". You are right, only on a single application level and much finer grained. Comments are welcome

When I first started playing with my iPod, i was sorely disappointed that there was no good tool to upload my photos to the iPod. Sure, there is GPixPod, but surely this is one of the worst peices of software ever. Never worked for me at all.
Yesterday I decided to have another look around, and discovered that libgpod have implemented some access to the iPod photo database. I thought this was exciting, so I started to play around with it.
I played around with it so much, that I developed a KIPI plugin to upload images to my iPod. Works quite nicely, but currently there is no UI to manage images based on the iPod. User interface designs and ideas are most welcome and I would love to hear from you.
Here is a screenshot of the iPod export plugin in action:

I hope that this tool is useful for some of you out there! Beware that it is currently not possible to remove images/albums from the ipod (or do any other ipod located manipulation).
I also hope to be able to make this into a standalone application soon, it shouldn’t take too much work.

Arrr..... aKademy is starting in some days, and I'm kinda busy with doing last organization for the trip (even forgot to learn for the french test tomorrow - it's not that easy to go to Vienna (Duesseldor f was easier at least I will arrive on Firday 13:55 @ Dublin Airport (check the wiki) and will le ave on 7:30 the following M onday - and currently have no clue how to go to hostel or college or anywhere Anyway, to make it easy for everyone to recognize and lead me to the right direction, here's a short description: tux cap on my head, big Kay on my black t-shirt, black trouser, black shoes, laptop bag on the righten side, (sliver colored) backpack on the back, a Kay pin on my jacket and no clue of anything but location of next coffee shop... If you still have no idea how I look like: <-- the Kayed one. So, I hope someone will guide me to aKademy location and ensures that I don't tumble in a big hole (->O<-) gotta pray a bit now (getting the plane is already quite difficult). Anyway, finally I just want to thank my school for making it possible to travel on Firday and Monday, so that I can at least enjoy the weekend of this year's KDE Conference. (BTW: there will be no Amarok release, live from aKademy - 1.4.3 was just too ASAP and .4 is not finished - maybe a special aKademy snapshot, though I wonder about the sense...)
Seriously, don't buy Fifa '07 for the 360. They are trying to rip you off. Have a look at this page here. Notice something? The 360 version of the game features teams from only seven leagues. The PC, PS2 and Xbox versions come with all the teams from all the leagues (teams from 28 leagues if I'm not mistaken). For god's sake, even the Nintendo DS version offers you a selection of 22 leagues. So what's going to happen? I'd like to bet: it's not that they couldn't include the other teams and leagues because of a time-issue, but because they want you to buy those teams and additional stadiums as a downloadable Content-Pack. Cash-cow baby.
May I ask what the Champions League mode is going to look like in this game? You start in the semi-final?
Better luck next year, EA.

Watching your photos on a map is just awesome. Try it!
The Rolling Stone Magazine asks: Was the 2004 election stolen?
Rather interesting read. If you're a Bush-lemming, just don't read it, you wouldn't like it anyways. Get your own opinion.

Yesterday Rob Levin, the founder of the freenode IRC network, died after a tragic accident. The Amarok project (and I think the free software world) ows much to his work. It was on freenode where our project was started. Freenode made it possible to bring together our developers from all around the world.
Rob Levin shall be remembered.

A short update regarding the Sony GPS-CS1 device: yes, I can personally confirm now that this device is well supported on pretty much any platform. Once connected via USB it simply acts as 32MB memory stick. Which is great and pretty much the best thing Sony could have done. By the way, there are three LEDs on the Sony GPS-CS1. One signals the battery status, another one for reporting that memory is full and the last one for indicating the current GPS connection status. Other than that there is only a power-button, a slot for the AA battery and a mini-USB socket.
Thanks Sony for not creating another one of such annoying proprietary devices and making life a little easier for us
Believe it or not, I got my Sony GPS-CS1.
But what an effort it took to get hold of it. After Sony sent the package to the wrong address first, I had the chance to experience UPS "First Class" customer service today. I don't want to make this story longer than it already is, so here it is in short-form:
- 10:00am UPS promises me delivery till 11am.
- 11:30am Called UPS. New delivery ETA is now 2pm.
- 2:30pm Called UPS. New delivery ETA is now 5pm.
- 5:15pm Called UPS. Opened an investigation. They promised me the driver would call me within 30 minutes.
- 6:10pm Called UPS. Filed a complaint. They promised me the Barking center would call me within 30 minutes.
- 6:30pm UPS calls. They are sorry, but even though I'm "first class" they won't make it anymore today. The driver already tried once, but couldn't find my place. He might try again on Monday.
Might? Try? What the f***. And you claim you are a delivery service?
So what were my options then? Spend another day waiting on Monday, just to find out the driver still can't find his way? No thanks. I took the Tube and went to Barking myself. So back to the story...
- 7:30pm I'm at Barking, UPS center. They can't find the package, maybe the driver still got it.
- 7:50pm They found it. While they were looking for it in the warehouse, it was standing 1m away from me on the counter all the time.
- 8:20pm Back in the Tube.
