Dear Amarok and KDE users,

I'm sure that you have heard of the terrible earthquake disaster that has happened in Haiti. Current estimations of deaths range from 100,000 to 200,000, and this number keeps rising. What we are looking at is very likely one of the worst natural disasters of the last 10 years.

I would like to encourage our users to help Haiti in this situation, if you can. One way of doing this is by sending donations to international humanitarian groups that support helping Haiti. I'm sure there are other ways, if you know some concrete examples, please add a comment.

Please do not voice your opinion if you have any bizarre theories (be it from religious motives, political fearmongering, conspiracy theories, etc) about how this disaster happened. I've heard many of them, and there is no need to hear any more. This article is only about helping, but not discussing backgrounds.

I would like to add that people that want to donate should go through more or less "certified" organizations of a certain size, because unfortunately there are people (extremely shady) that try to capitalize on the disaster and on the goodwill of others.

Indeed, that's a very good point. There are many shady organizations out there, and it would be a shame to invest money in them.

I don't see a reason to help those people, there will be enough help already from the VN, as to help will not be good.

Further I don't trust that donations are used 100% for the cause the 555 banknumber donation from Netherlands had still left money from other disater

I usually donate to "Doctors without Borders" since I know they will use the money correctly. But of course there are a lot of other very trustworthy organisations acting on an international level. Just make sure they publish their figures and that you can get their financial results on demand. Everything else can not be trusted, of course.

This is nice thought but I feel this is terrible that world turns NOW looking the Haiti when there happends a big nature disaster wiping only over 100 000 people, but the world have not taked care of Haiti, the poorest country on the southern pole when the United States have been killing there almost million of people by their paramillitary units and assassing politicions and other democratic people.

This nature disaster is just SMALL thing when compared to deaths what US have caused in last 15 years!

We, western countries are responsible to disaster of Haiti itself. This case is sad nature disaster but small thing when compared to the disaster what western countries does. And even more disaster is that WE DO NOT CARE.
