Last week my hard drive started giving me troubles - the boot process took longer and longer, grinding noises became louder and X kept randomly crashing on me (although I think that might be a RAM problem)…
Yesterday, I decided to move everything I owned onto the gigantic HDD that is my iPod. I wasn’t really sure why I did it, but I justified it as worthwhile procrastination.
Today, as I rose from knee level after pressing the all fateful power-on button, I was greeted with a scary prompt during the IDE check:
S.M.A.R.T. good flag is set to bad.
Backup your data, failure is imminent
My HDD has now died. Although I am still able to do work on my laptop, it couldn’t have come at a more inconvenient time - so much to do before Wednesday when I leave for NL!
I suppose I am very lucky to have that ipod now…
