Great ! It was also my favorite feature in Amarok 1.4 and I missed it so much !!
Will this be part of Amarok 2.1 ?
nope, this is not 2.1 material, we've been feature frozen for 2.1 for a few months now. 2.1.1 or 2.2, unsure of which but probably 2.2 due to the extent of the changes
Arg, too bad... so you know where I can find a time schedule of Amarok releases ? (even a approximate one)
2.1 is coming out really quite soon....
but beyond that, we don't know ourselves when 2.2 will be coming out, so we can't really say. there will be a period of "openness in trunk" for new features to be added and then we'll wind things down towards a release.
Thank you!
that was the feature I liked most in Amarok 1.4.X. I was about to look if there already was a feature-request for it... It seems you where quicker ... Thanks! Jo
Yeah!!!!!!
Thanks a lot, I just started using Amarok 2 and this was THE missing feature for me. I have good tags but no rating (not really time for that) and the possibility to launch an album and then just the music play until the end of the evening was great... Thanks for all the work in this great software.
THANK YOU. This is THE feature that I missed from amarok 1.4.
I've just made a donation to amarok as an additional thank you. \m/ Rock on! \m/
thanks everyone for the supportive comments. lets just say there is some cool stuff in the pipeline
Awesome Leo!
As a big fan of Britney, I've dearly missed this feature for quite some time Finally I no longer need to turn in to the last.fm Britney station
Thanks Leo, we were missing this !
When will this be in svn ? just after the 2.1 release ?
Great stuff. This looks like it's very nicely done. Can't wait to start using it.
This sounds great!
What would make it trully amazingly awesome and ultrasexy, is if it was possible to (optionally) search similar artists through all your accessible music and not just local. I.e. check Jamendo, Magnatune, your Mp3Tunes, etc. etc. ...IMHO what makes Amarok2 different is that it does not matter anymore where you get your music fix, but that you do!
that wouldn't be hard to add at all, however, we need a similarity algorithm that tells us about these artists.
currently we're using last.fm to tell us what artists are similar, which uses the aggregate plays of their user submissions. i doubt enough people play magnatune tracks for them to show up as top similar artists :-/
But chances are that people who do listen to a Jamendo or Magnatune artist a lot will listen to other Jamendo or Magnatune artists a lot as well. Even on Last.FM.
Just as an example: I actually found about Grace Valhalla by looking at Last.FM's similar artists of Try^d — both are Jamendo artists
ok good to know. i started looking in to adding multiple collection searches, unfortunately it is a bit more complicated than it seems :-/
in any case, thanks for confirming that we have the data, i have a use-case for it now
Actually it's even more then that -- Last.FM already suggests Jamendo artists as Recomendations in my profile, after just two weeks of listening to free music only (which compared to my 47K scrobbles since 2005 is almost nothing). So Last.FM seems to be quite a sensible solution here
I'm sorry to hear it's more complicated. :\ ...but at least you know it will rock even harder when you get it done!
Hi leo,
cool that implementing this feature didn't take so long as you thought, when i asked you in irc. one question: is it possible to just display the "suggested artists" in the context area? |
