From Amarok Wiki

Since this is a common problem I would like to suggest that the instructions could be changed in as much as smbfs is no longer supported instead cifs has replaced it. (Suse 10.3) Since I am only just learning my way here I am unsure of whether there are any syntax changes when one uses cifs and not smbfs in the mount command.

Is there some reason Amarok doesn't just use standard tools which have worked well for decades to read a directory? It shouldn't matter at all whether it's a local directory, an NFS share, a Samba share or a USB drive. Open the specified directory, read the files, extract the info you need. Done. Where is the benefit to whatever method you're using that makes it worthwhile to have my mounted shares scrapped giving me input/output errors just because I asked Amarok to read them?!? (Yes, I know how to fix it) No offense intended to anybody who put their time in on it, but I'm really amazed that this is even an issue. Is there actually a good reason for this?
